The Enrollment Management Association Welcomes Four New Board Members

The The Enrollment Management Association board of directors is pleased to announce the appointment of four new trustees beginning their terms this July 1. John Kerney, governance committee chair, expressed: “These four exceptional industry leaders are truly poised to enrich the board with their unique set of experiences and perspectives. ChristineBakerLoRes 210x210Christine Hailer Baker Since founding the Baker Group in 1999, Chris has led schools through the country’s most economically challenging times, supporting their need to become more data-driven and research-based, and helping them develop school-specific marketing strategies that reflect coordinated schoolwide efforts. The 2011 The Enrollment Management Association Bretnall Award winner, Chris has been at the forefront of elevating the admission profession and advancing enrollment management practices in all types of independent schools. In 2012, Chris edited The Enrollment Management Handbook, an NAIS-published guide for trustees, heads of school, and admission officers. Having devoted 30 years of her career to education, Chris’ school and college experiences include serving as director of admission at Milton Academy (MA) for seven years and working for 10 years in the college admission offices at Boston College and Babson College. She received a M.A. in higher education administration from Boston College and her undergraduate degree from the University of Massachusetts.

Brooks210SquareRGB72Mark Brooks Mark Brooks is currently the head of Pilgrim School (CA).He is a graduate of the University of Southern California and Loyola Law School where he earned a J.D. He was selected as a 2010 Fellow in the Klingenstein Program for Visiting Heads of School at Columbia University’s Teachers College. Prior to being appointed head of school, he served as the associate general counsel for Honda North America and the vice president and general counsel of SeeBeyond Technology. He has served as a trustee of the National Association of Independent Schools and is currently the president of the board of the California Association of Independent Schools. In July of 2016, Mark will assume the headship at The Center for Early Education (CA).

WalkerBuck210SquareRGB72Suzanne Walker Buck Suzanne Walker Buck began her career at Westminster School (CT) where she worked in the office of admission, served as director of financial aid, coached field hockey and lacrosse, and ran a dorm. She continued her school work at Fay School (MA) where she served as both director of the international student program and director of admission. Suzanne then went on to work at New Hampton School (NH) where, as the director of enrollment management, she worked collaboratively to increase applications by over 50% and to significantly enhance process selectivity and yield. Today, Suzanne is the rector/ head of school at Chatham Hall (VA). Suzanne holds a M.S. in clinical social work from Columbia University and a M.Ed. from Harvard. She has presented at multiple conferences including TABS, The Enrollment Management Association, and IECA. Suzanne is a faculty member of the Erdmann Institute, on the board of TABS, and a member of The Enrollment Management Association’s Enrollment Management Think Tank.

Goldsmith210SquareRGB72Claire Goldsmith In June of 2016, Claire will become executive director of the Malone Schools Online Network (MSON), a consortium of independent schools across the U.S. collaborating to offer real-time online courses that enhance the existing curricula of each member school. Claire helped to develop MSON while at Stanford Online High School (CA), where she served most recently as director of admissions and external relations. During her five-year tenure, she oversaw yearover- year growth in enrollment, managed financial aid, student recruitment, and school collaborations; taught history; and served as the liaison to the Malone Family Foundation for the school’s $5 million scholarship endowment. For four years, Claire taught English and French and coached debate at the Harvard-Westlake School (CA). Claire is a member of the Corporation of the Winsor School (her alma mater) and the Institute for Educational Advancement’s Caroline D. Bradley Scholarship Committee. She holds an A.B. from Harvard College in history and literature and a M.A. in policy, organization, and leadership studies from the Stanford University School of Education. She completed graduate work on a Harvard fellowship at the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris and was a Fellow with Education Pioneers.
