Member Minute: SSAT Scaled Score vs. Percentile

Welcome to EMA’s Member Minute where I’ll be teaching you an actionable strategy, tip, trick, or hack to help you meet your enrollment goals - all in about a minute.

When you are reading the SSAT score reports of your applicants there can be a lot of information to take in. The first thing to consider is a student’s scaled score. It is typical for many to go directly to the SSAT Percentile because for many, that is the data point that is most familiar. However, the scaled score is  the most relevant data point for tracking student performance no matter which year a student took a test, or which test they took during the year.

Our scaled scores have been equated over time. Equating is a complicated statistical process done by our psychometricians. It ensures that the scores can accurately reflect the same level of ability over time. So, in very simple terms, a 650 then is a 650 now.
